Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Introducing PRP for Portland and Beaverton Patients

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a natural approach to reducing fine lines and adding lift to the face. Through a revolutionary process, we extract your body’s own healing cells and enrich them into a substance called platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

For cosmetic reasons, PRP can be injected by itself or with fillers into lines, wrinkles, or acne scars to rejuvenate and revitalize skin. Another beneficial way to apply PRP is following laser treatment, such as Fraxel or Clear & Brilliant, to stimulate the production of new collagen and regenerate the skin from within.

Areas of Concern

PRP injections may be used on the face and neck to treat:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Sun damage

PRP may also be used to treat, heal, and relieve pain for a range of orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Tendonitis
  • Tennis elbow
  • UCL injury
  • And more

Evidence suggests PRP may also be used to improve the appearance of stretch marks, spider veins, and broken capillaries on the:

  • Upper arms
  • Thighs
  • Stomach
  • Buttocks

How Does PRP Work?

During PRP treatment, a small amount of blood is drawn from patients before it is placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelets.

Platelets are tiny stem cell fragments produced by bone marrow and used to prevent and stop bleeding at an injury site. They contain a high concentration of substances that promote tissue repair and influence new cell growth.

Studies show that when separated from the blood and injected into other areas of the body, these platelets may stimulate the healing process of the injection site while also decreasing pain and encouraging cell, collagen, and elastin production.

Hear What Our Portland Patients Have to Say About Our PRP Treatments

The best that happened to me was retiring and finding Key Laser Institute! I love the results I got after just three treatments. Everyone in the office is wonderful, professional and caring. Shellie has the expertise, experience and magic hands to make me look good and younger than my age. I referred my sister-friend and she is also very happy with her results.

Everyone is highly professional, knowledgeable and customer-outcome-centric at Key Laser. From all the front desk folks — shout out to Luke! — to Courtney who’s been doing my laser treatments. And Dr. Key is really available to lend his expertise when needed.

My 2nd visit to Key Laser was just as wonderful as the first. Dr. Key has been in the top of his field for decades and it shows. His staff is knowledgeable, kind and professional. The environment is beautiful, comfortable and convenient to get to. My procedures have been exactly what was explained to me and felt very safe in the exceptionally trained hands of Dr Key and his staff. I’m very pleased with my experience and have already booked another appointment.

Did quite a bit of research before deciding on Key Laser. Went in for 3 procedures on the same day. Staff were extremely professional and attentive. Never felt like I was waiting too long. Ashley is knowledgeable and highly skilled. The procedures were indeed "spicy", as described by the staff. Would recommend this facility to anyone.

Expert, Patient-Centered Care Every Step of the Way

Before Your PRP Treatment

Before your Portland PRP treatment, we advise patients to avoid taking ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs five days before treatment. Studies suggest that pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medication may decrease the effectiveness of PRP.

We may also advise patients to:

  • Get a good night’s rest the night before the procedure.
  • Eat healthy meals the day before and of the procedure.
  • Avoid alcohol and nicotine a week before the procedure.
  • Discontinue any homeopathic supplements, vitamins, or medications that have blood-thinning properties a week before the procedure.

During Your PRP Treatment

During your PRP procedure, a small amount of blood is drawn from the arm. Then, the blood is placed in a special centrifuge to extract the platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

After extraction, the PRP is strategically injected into lines, creases, and facial hollows to promote healing and improve the appearance of the skin.

Although PRP can be used alone, better results are seen when combined with injectable fillers or, better yet, fat transfer injections. We can also create a healing mask of PRP to apply directly after a laser treatment.

After Your PRP Treatment

After your treatment, you may experience slight swelling, bruising, or bleeding at the injection site. These symptoms should resolve themselves in a week or two.

Our Portland PRP treatments are generally associated with little to no downtime. Our patients often drive themselves home after their procedure and report minimal pain during recovery.

However, we suggest icing the injection area and avoiding strenuous activity for at least one day after treatment.

Results

PRP is a regenerative process, and results emerge over time. Multiple treatments will create the best results. Based on the extent of your skin’s condition, you may see noticeable improvements, such as a brighter complexion and improved skin texture, in as little as two to three weeks.

However, peak results may occur within one to two months following the procedure as collagen and elastin production increases.

FAQs About Our PRP Treatments in Portland

Is PRP Really Worth It?

If you would like to experience fantastic anti-aging and skin regeneration results with a non-invasive procedure and minimal downtime, then yes!

PRP is really worth it.

Additionally, when combined with other treatments such as Genius RF microneedling, laser resurfacing, and fillers, PRP may significantly improve the look and feel of your skin.

At Key Laser Institute, we create customized care and treatment plans to help our patients achieve their desired aesthetics. We approach every consultation with the intent to educate patients and set realistic goals and expectations for every procedure. Whether you seek PRP in Portland as a single treatment or include it in your treatment regimen, we’ll ensure your safety, comfort, and quality results.

What Is the Downside of PRP?

Since PRP uses your own cells and plasma, there is little risk of allergic reaction or other complications. Following your procedure, you may experience slight swelling, bruising, or bleeding, but these symptoms should go away within one to two weeks.

Is PRP Therapy Painful?

PRP treatments are relatively painless, depending on your pain tolerance or tolerance of needles. Any discomfort you might experience during the procedure may last less than a few minutes.

How Long Does PRP Last?

The results from your PRP treatment may last six to 12 months. For some, they may even last 18 months to two years. It all depends on biological factors, lifestyle choices, the continuation of treatments, and whether other rejuvenation therapies were also involved.

We recommend additional PRP treatments spaced at least six to eight weeks apart for the best results.

Is PRP Suitable for Everyone?

While PRP is considered safe for most people, it’s not recommended for people with:

  • Hepatitis C
  • HIV or AIDS
  • Blood cancer
  • Blood dyscrasia
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Anemia
  • Blood clotting or bleeding problems

If you are unsure whether our Portland PRP treatment would be safe for you, you can consult our expert care providers.
